Hey guys, Rob from Ultimate Diesel Tuning! Today we’ve got an Amarok in for an Ultimate Package and the fitment of a secondary fuel filter. This Amarok is a TDI-420 model, it has a four-cylinder 2-litre twin-turbo engine in it. Our Ultimate Packages are very popular and they consist of an upgraded exhaust system, on-car chemical soot clean, fitment of a catch-can and (then) finishing it off with a custom dyno tune to suit the vehicle’s use. We’ve fitted the exhaust system, the catch can, the secondary fuel filter for the extra engine protection, as well as doing a chemical soot clean on this vehicle. This car’s also had the mechanical inspection and it’s all good to go. All vehicles at Ultimate Diesel Tuning have a mechanical inspection to ensure that all fluid levels are ok and there are no fluid leaks from the vehicle. This car is good to go and hit the dyno. The owner of this Amarok is a Health And Safety Officer and he uses it work so he’s doing a lot of driving around. He also tows a 2.5 tonne caravan out to work sites out West. He’s reported to us that it’s really sluggish down low, it’s also using a fair bit of fuel and he wants to get more power out of it. So today, we’re going to give it a custom dyno tune to suit all of these driving conditions and correct these issues. First of all, for our custom dyno tuning procedure, we carry out power runs on the dyno in standard form to get base power and torque figures at the wheels. Then we carry out the custom dyno tune. Our tuning process involves altering the software within the vehicle’s factory ECU. Using our specialist software, our engineering team is able to carry out recalibration of numerous engine control parameters such as torque limiting, desired torque, fuel injection maps, boost control and many more. Each vehicle is put on our all-wheel drive dyno so we can accurately test these software changes to each individual car; whilst data-logging the engine’s performance after each software revision. This process sees multiple tunes tested until the optimized power and torque is achieved, based on the vehicle’s use. It’s truly a customised tuning process! We’ve now completed the custom dyno tune on the Amarok. Let’s check it out! In standard form, the Amarok presented with 85 Kilowatts of power at the wheels and 300 Newton Metres of torque at all four wheels. After we completed the custom dyno tune, it went to 118 Kilowatts and 366 Newton Meters of torque. This represents a 38 percent gain in peak power and 22 percent gain in torque! Another Ultimate Package out the door. This customer wanted more torque and less turbo lag to assist with towing his big van on trips out west. He was also chasing an improvement in fuel economy. This Amarok will now tow the van like a boss and he’ll also see a saving in fuel, it’ll be a lot smoother and nicer to drive.
