This tutorial is about the Cross in Wheel. Moreover we show some nice combinations with the Cross. Wheel isn´t apt for beginners. It´s good to have some experience with Rope Skipping. To start doing Wheel, there´s an earlier tutorial, if you need some help. But if you´re once familiar with doing Wheel, the Cross is´t that difficult then. As usual, it´s an advantage to think about the proper motion of the arms without the ropes. As the right arms are connected with one rope and the left arms are connected with the other rope, these arms have to cross at the same time. Counting is obligatian, so that both know, which arm has to cross or to undo the Cross. Here you can see the adequate run of the arms. Both right arms do the Cross. Then both left arms do the Cross. Then the right arms undo the Cross and finally the left arms undo the Cross. First agree on the arm, which will start, count on the hits of that arm. We take the right ones. We say, “1”, when this rope hits the floor. We say, “2”, when this rope hits the floor the next time. The third time this rope hits the floor, the right arms are already crossed. So, we have to start crossing immediately after “2”. To be strictly, it is exactly when the rope is at it´s peak. Since the motion of the left arms is shifted by 180 degrees, the left arms start crossing, when the right rope hits the floor. That was crossing at normal speed. With the next hit of the floor we start with undoing the Cross. The right arms start, shifted by 180 degrees, the left arms follow. Here you can see all that together at normal speed. With some experience you can shorten counting. Start to count at that moment we just said “2” and count every hit of a rope. Now let´s talk about the feet. Usually the skippers jump alternately. In our case now the left one jumps twice then the right one jumps twice. In principle, it´s possible, that one of them stops jumping, while the rope passes under the feet of the partner twice. But for the reason to keep the rhythm, it´s highly recommended to jump or at least bounce a little bit. And it looks better and more sweepingly. Finally an important tipp: Keep the rhythm. Just in the beginning it´s a common mistake to speed up. The pace is exactly the same, with and without the Cross. Now let´s do some variations. That´s really fine to perfect the new skill. First of all, we stay in Cross position. We continue with crossed arms. Count again to undo the Cross or find an agreement on the number of Crosses you do. Now again we do a series of Crosses. But we undo every Cross, before we do the next one. Don´t forget to start Crosses with both arms. So, we now do Crosses starting with our left arms. As soon as that works, we try to do those Crosses alternately. Thats quite challenging. The first Cross needs 4 beats. Then there´s one basic beat. The next Cross starts with the 6th beat. That needs a lot of concentration. Now, finally, a further, quite funny variation, if you want to be challenged. They again start with their right arms. We don´t undo the first Cross. The left arm leaves crossed and initiates the second Cross. So the 4th beat of the first Cross is already the first beat of the second Cross. The right arm crosses again. Only then the Cross is finaly undone. Some kind of meshing Cross. Have fun while practicing.
